Characteristics of PPSU
PPSU (polyphenylsulfone) is an amorphous super engineering plastic with a high glass transition temperature and strong performance at elevated temperatures.
It has extremely low moisture absorption and excellent dimensional stability. Its strong hydrolysis resistance allows it to withstand repeated steam sterilization cycles, making it a particularly common choice in medical applications. Its high light transmittance also makes it suitable for covers and sight windows.
Excellent mechanical strength
Excellent impact resistance
Excellent chemical resistance
Excellent heat resistance
High light transmittance
Electrical insulation
Excellent hydrolysis resistance
Excellent dimensional stability
Very high resistance to high-energy radiation
Types of PPSU
In addition to the standard grade, PPSU is available in a medical grade designed for biocompatibility and repeated steam sterilization.
Standard grade
Medical grade
Material Selection Notes
PPSU is attacked by strong acids, halogenated hydrocarbons, aromatic solvents, ethers, and ketones. It is also sensitive to UV exposure and is not suitable for outdoor use. Always verify chemical compatibility before use.
Poor resistance to strong acids
Poor UV resistance
Chemical compatibility should always be verified
