Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE): Properties, Grades, and Applications

Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE): Properties, Grades, and Applications

2025/10/7

What is Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene?

Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) is a super-engineering plastic with a molecular weight ranging from 1–7 million, compared to 200,000–300,000 for standard polyethylene. The increased molecular weight gives UHMW-PE exceptional impact resistance—surpassing even polycarbonate—and superior wear resistance compared to materials like MC Nylon.

These properties make UHMW-PE ideal for high-strength, high-wear components such as conveyor rollers, guide rails, and industrial liners. The material is typically available in a standard white grade, with black and green options also available. Specialty grades offer enhanced properties for specific applications, including conductivity, low friction, and wear resistance.
