What is PVC?

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a thermoplastic, amorphous (non-crystalline) plastic produced by polymerizing vinyl chloride. PVC also maintains performance in acidic soils and can last long periods underground.

Electrical Insulation

PVC has strong electrical insulation properties, including high breakdown voltage and volume resistivity. Its high dielectric constant limits high-frequency insulation performance, but it supports high-frequency welding processes.

Heat Resistance

PVC has relatively low heat resistance, with a typical service temperature around 80°C. Exposure to higher temperatures can cause physical deterioration or deformation, while temperatures below -20°C may make it brittle and prone to impact breakage. PVC also has a high linear expansion rate, so careful consideration of dimensional changes with temperature is important.

Flame Retardancy

PVC is highly flame-resistant and difficult to ignite. When burned, it releases hydrogen chloride gas, and the resulting char layer protects the surface from oxygen, preventing further combustion.

Workability

PVC is highly workable and can be cut, machined, bent, and bonded with adhesives. Its compatibility with various processing methods makes it suitable for a wide range of manufacturing applications.
